I’ve been suffering from Myopia (also known as short-sightedness) since I was 7 years old cos of my itchy hands. I kept playing with my sister’s glasses, pretended I was a teacher or some kinda cute/hot girl with glasses and eventually I had to wear glasses haha. Kids, please don’t do that if you’re reading this cos wearing glasses/contact lens is a big big big hassle! For someone who travels extensively and loves water sports, it’s especially inconvenient. Imagine packing contact lens solution, contact lens, eye drops, specs for a trip and having super dry eyes when you’re playing water sports cos the seawater just keeps splashing into your eyes. Also, since I started wearing contact lens, I’ve never opened my eyes when I’m underwater unless I have goggles on. But seriously, who wears goggles in open sea if you’re just dipping or swimming right? I can just go on and on about why I hate being myopic.
I’ve quite a lot of friends who had undergone LASIK surgery and all of them always tell me it’s one of the best decisions they have made ever. I can totally imagine myself feeling the same way after the surgery when I wake up to clear vision, never ever having to do with all the contact lens/solution hassle and swimming underwater being able to see the beautiful marine life. Just the thought of it is getting me excited already!
I don’t know why I’ve been procrastinating for so long but I’m finally doing Epi Lasik this Thursday! To be honest, I was a bit scared but after learning from Clear Vision that Epi Lasik is an all laser, no cut, flawless blameless procedure I heaved a big sigh of relief. There are different kinds of LASIK procedures and LASIK itself is using a blade to cut open your cornea to replace the flap. OUCH! Thank heavens I’m doing Trans-epiLASIK! Woo!
More about Trans-epiLASIK
Since Trans-epiLASIK doesn’t cut into the cornea to create a flap, there’s no risk of flap-related complications such as flap injections, inflammations, wrinkles and dislodgement with exists with LASIK. There is also less cornea weakening as compared to LASIK! Trans-epiLASIK takes only about 3-5 mins per eye and is suitable for more eyes with higher myopia or thinner cornea!
I’ll be doing Trans-epiLASIK at Clearvision Eye Clinic & Lasik Centre, Singapore and I’m glad to entrust my precious eyes to them. Dr Tony Ho has 20 years of practice as an eye doctor and has operated on many people such as Sophie Willocq, Andrea Chong, Jemma Wei etc so I know my eyes are safe in his hands (: I’ll be back with a post-op blog post to update you guys!
